No Shipping Fees in Strait of Hormuz for 60 Days: Pakistani FM

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar told Al Arabiya on Sunday that ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz will not pay any transit or service fees during the current 60-day period.

No Shipping Fees

“There will be no transit or service fees in the Strait of Hormuz,” Dar said, while negotiations between the United States and Iran remain underway, according to Al-Arabiya.

He also noted that three technical committees are currently taking part in the talks between Tehran and Washington.  He further clarified that the teams are mainly concerned with key issues including Iran’s nuclear program, the release of frozen Iranian assets, as well as developments in Lebanon.

Dar’s remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to transform the U.S.-Iran interim agreement into a broader settlement, as parties involved in the negotiations push for a durable accord aimed at ending the hostilities and addressing unresolved disputes.

War in Iran

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead and triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

On Wednesday, Iran and the United States signed an agreement to end the conflict, offering some relief and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistani Foreign Minister underscored that his country played a crucial role in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, helping bring the two sides into direct talks for the first time in 47 years. He also said that Islamabad collaborated with regional and international partners to support the mediation effort and pave the way for the negotiations.
