Saudi Crown Prince to Skip G7 Summit Due to Prior Commitments

Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman informed French President Emmanuel Macron that he will not be able to attend the upcoming G7 Summit in France, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

In a message to Macron, the Saudi Crown Prince expressed his gratitude for the invitation extended to him to take part in the working meeting and lunch of the G7 Summit, set to take place in the city of Evian on June 16, 2026.

However, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended his apologies for being unable to participate, citing prior commitments. He also reaffirmed the strength of the strategic relations between Saudi Arabia and France, expressing his wishes for the summit’s success.

French President Macron on Wednesday said that he extended invitations to the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar and the UAE to participate in a G7 session next week to discuss the situation in the Middle East, reported AFP.

Discussions will focus on the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has “a real impact on our economies” due in particular to soaring fuel prices, Macron said. Talks will also tackle “negotiations on Iran,” he added.

The G7 (Group of Seven) involves the world’s leading economies: Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US. The upcoming G7 Summit will take place in the French lakeside resort of Evian on June 15-17, 2026.
