Oman’s Mina Al-Fahal Port Continues Operations after Reported Explosion

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) confirmed on Friday that operations at Mina Al-Fahal port are continuing normally, following reports from Reuters that an explosion near the port’s mooring berths had temporarily suspended oil loading.

Sources familiar with the matter reported that the explosion took place between the Single Buoy Mooring (SBM) 1 and SBM 2 berths and is believed to have been caused by a drone attack.

The timing of the alleged attack was not immediately clear.

Shipping data from LSEG also showed that many supertankers were observed anchored off the port on Friday.

Crucially, the terminal handles approximately 800,000 to 900,000 barrels of crude oil exports per day from Oman.

On Wednesday, Iran’s state media said that Tehran had targeted a U.S. military vessel carrying a “command-and-control center” while it was approaching Iranian territorial waters in the Gulf of Oman.

This claim was swiftly denied by the US Central Command.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
