Jeddah’s Globe Roundabout: A Living Calendar of Saudi Major Events

The Globe Roundabout in Jeddah has emerged as a vibrant “artistic calendar,” one that depicts the city’s rhythm of celebration and national milestones, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

This landmark now serves as a visual chronicle of key occasions, from the launch of Jeddah Season to the historic announcement of Saudi Arabia hosting the 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Ahead of Formula races, the Globe Roundabout in Jeddah featured dynamic installations inspired by drivers’ helmets.

It also features a festive glow during Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr, illuminated in green and adorned with national flags for Saudi National Day, Founding Day, and Flag Day, while turning off its lights completely during Earth Hour.

Inaugurated in 1982 and designed by Spanish artist Julio Lafuente, the Globe Roundabout is one of Jeddah’s defining landmarks, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s enduring openness to global cultural exchange.

Interestingly, Makkah is positioned at the center of the globe, illuminated by radiant lighting, evoking the idea of light emanating from the holy city to the rest of the world.

Spanning 6,915 square meters with a diameter of 94 meter, the landmark boasts the globe itself at its center, 13 meters in height and 26.5 meters in diameter, crafted from glass and painted concrete.
