Beijing Confirms Visa Free Entry for Canadians, Britons Starting Feb 17

Starting Tuesday, February 17, Canadian and British citizens will be granted visa‑free entry after recent high‑level visits to Beijing, according to Arab News.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney traveled to Beijing in January, aiming to boosting ties with China while signaling a pivot away from the unpredictability of relations with the United States.

Following talks with President Xi Jinping and other top officials, the British and Canadian prime ministers commended advances in relations and agreements on visa‑free travel to China.

On Sunday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry that Canadian and British citizens will be able to travel to China visa‑free beginning Tuesday, with the policy set to remain in effect until December 31.

“Holders of ordinary passports from these countries can enter China without a visa for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, exchanges, or transit for a period not exceeding 30 days,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also noted that the move was intended to “further facilitate people‑to‑people exchanges between China and other countries.”
