UK foreign minister to discuss infrastructure in developing world in Gulf visit

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announced that during her tour to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, she will discuss new partnerships to reach a “win-win” deal.

The British government said, in a statement issued at dawn on Thursday that Terrace “will benefit from her visit to the Gulf region to discuss new partnerships for investment in infrastructure in Asia and Africa.”

The statement indicated that the Trust seeks, during its two-day visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which began on Wednesday, to “form bilateral working teams with allies in the Gulf region to provide cleaner and more reliable infrastructure and much-needed financing in developed countries.”

The government indicated that the projects to be discussed could include building water and electricity supply networks and constructing ports and roads.

“This would be a win-win deal for Britain, the Gulf region and countries across Asia and Africa that will create working conditions, improve the quality of life and benefit the businesses of Britain and the Gulf states active in the region,” the British Foreign Secretary said in the statement.

Terrace arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, where she met the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, to discuss closer cooperation in the field of regional security, development, human rights, combating terrorism, and ways for the two countries to strengthen economic relations in light of Saudi Arabia’s plan to diversify its economy.

The terrace will also meet in Qatar Thursday the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
