SWA Launches New Identity for Global Innovation Prize in Water, Valued at Over $2 Million

The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) has unveiled a new identity for the Global Prize for Innovation in Water (GPIW) and is now welcoming entries for the prize’s third edition. Innovators, researchers, and academic institutions are invited to register through the official website: https://gpiw.net.

This announcement comes as preparations begin for the upcoming awards ceremony, scheduled for December 8 in Jeddah, coinciding with the fourth Innovation-Driven Water Sustainability Conference (IDWS). Building on record participation in previous years, the third edition highlights SWA’s ongoing dedication to promoting innovation and empowering scientific talent in the global water sector.

Since its inception, the GPIW has become one of the world’s leading platforms for advancing research and development in water technology. This year, the prize introduces a refreshed identity and six core competition categories that reflect both urgent challenges and emerging opportunities in water innovation:

  • Water Quality Improvement and Reclamation
  • Circular and Zero Liquid Discharge Processes
  • Digital Business Models and Process Automation
  • Sustainable Water Production and Environmental Conservation
  • Cost-Effective Wastewater Treatment Technologies

  • Discovery Prize for early-stage innovations
  • Leadership Prize for advanced, near-market solutions

The first two editions of GPIW drew over 650 entries from 44 countries, including contributions from more than 120 international organizations—universities, research institutes, and startups among them. More than 22 projects received financial awards and operational support exceeding $2 million.

Moreover, participants gain access to a worldwide network of experts, fostering knowledge exchange and accelerating technology deployment.
