Saudi FM Discusses Developments in Gaza with UK Counterpart

The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, held a telephone discussion with the British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly on the current developments and unfolding situations in Gaza.

Saudi’s Stand on Civilian Targeting

The Saudi Foreign Minister highlighted the Kingdom’s strong opposition to the targeting of civilians in any form. He reiterated the importance of an immediate halt to the military escalation. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of lifting the blockade on Gaza. He also called for contributing to the entry of relief and humanitarian aid to civilians.

International Responsibility

The Saudi Foreign Minister urged the UK, as a permanent member of the Security Council, to assume its role in maintaining international peace and security. He emphasized the importance of implementing Security Council resolutions related to the Palestinian issue, specifically Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1873), 1515 (2003), and 2334 (2016), in order to establish a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with relevant international references.

Conversation with Gabon’s Foreign Minister

In a separate phone call, the Saudi Foreign Minister discussed the latest developments in Gaza with the Gabonese Foreign Minister, Pacôme Moubelet Boubeya. The Saudi Foreign Minister stressed the importance of stopping all forms of targeting civilians and the commitment of all conflicting parties to what is stipulated by international humanitarian law.

Role of Non-Permanent Members in Security Council

Prince Faisal bin Farhan urged Gabon, given its role as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, to work to enable the council to fulfill its responsibility in maintaining international peace and security by pushing for an immediate cessation of military operations and lifting the siege on Gaza.

Conversation with Indonesian Foreign Minister

The Saudi Foreign Minister also discussed the latest developments in Gaza and its surroundings in a telephone conversation with the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Retno Marsudi. The two sides touched on the importance of intensifying communication with the international community to assume its responsibility towards reaching a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, in line with UN and Security Council resolutions on this issue, and the importance of reaching urgent solutions to introduce medical and relief materials to the Palestinian people.

Conversation with Maltese Foreign Minister

In another phone call, the Saudi Foreign Minister discussed the latest developments in Gaza with his Maltese counterpart, Evarist Bartolo. The Saudi Foreign Minister urged Malta, given its role as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, to fulfill its responsibility in maintaining international peace and security by pushing for an immediate cessation of military operations and lifting the siege on Gaza.

Conversation with the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

The Saudi Foreign Minister also held a telephone conversation with the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell. The Saudi Foreign Minister, during the call, stressed the need for Israel to comply with international humanitarian law, including allowing the arrival of food and relief materials to Gaza, lifting the blockade on it, and working to find a fair and comprehensive political solution to the Palestinian issue, thereby ensuring security and stability in the region and the world.
