Saudi Envoy to Ghana Accredited to Togo

In a recent diplomatic stride, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Ghana, Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Dakhil, expanded his diplomatic remit to include the Republic of Togo. This occurred when he presented his credentials as a non-resident envoy to Togo, a move reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

Saudi-Ghana Relations:

Saudi Arabia and Ghana have enjoyed diplomatic relations over the years, with both nations benefiting from bilateral trade agreements, particularly in the oil and gas sector. The Kingdom has been a key player in supporting Ghana’s energy sector, with various Saudi oil companies investing in the region. Moreover, Saudi Arabia has also provided financial aid to Ghana for developmental projects, thereby strengthening the bilateral ties between the two nations.

Recent Accreditation in Ghana:

Al-Dakhil’s official capacity was recently formalized in Ghana through a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry on Friday, June 2, 2023, where he presented his Open Letters of Credence to Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Thomas Mbomba. This accreditation symbolizes a new chapter in Saudi-Ghana relations, promising enhanced cooperation in various sectors.

Extension to Togo:

Following his accreditation in Ghana, Al-Dakhil extended his diplomatic mandate to Togo, presenting his credentials as a non-resident envoy on a subsequent Sunday. Though the exact date wasn’t specified, this move signifies Saudi Arabia’s intent to foster closer relations with Togo, alongside its established ties with Ghana.

Saudi-Togo Diplomatic Prospects:

The extension of Al-Dakhil’s diplomatic remit to Togo underscores Saudi Arabia’s aim to bolster its diplomatic presence in West Africa. Togo, with its strategic location and growing economy, presents a viable partner for Saudi Arabia in the region.

Through this diplomatic outreach, Saudi Arabia aims to explore new avenues of cooperation with Togo, potentially in areas of trade, investment, and regional security.

The dual accreditation of Sultan bin Abdulrahman Al-Dakhil as the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to both Ghana and Togo reflects a strategic move by the Kingdom to enhance its diplomatic engagements in West Africa.

It not only reaffirms the robust relations between Saudi Arabia and Ghana but also opens up new diplomatic horizons with Togo.

Through these strengthened ties, Saudi Arabia is poised to foster deeper cooperation with these West African nations, thereby extending its diplomatic outreach and potentially reaping economic benefits in the region.
