Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Riyadh on Monday on the eve of US-Russia talks on Ukraine, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, held an important meeting with Rubio upon his arrival in the Kingdom.
Both officials reviewed the Saudi-US relations and discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, they also delved into the latest regional and international developments and pivotal efforts made in this regard.
Rubio’s visit comes ahead of an expected meeting of senior officials from the US, Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia to hold summit aiming at kickstarting negotiations on ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
The State Department stated that Rubio’s visit to the region will “promote US interests in advancing regional cooperation, stability, and peace.”
The statement also added that the trip will focus on freeing American and all other hostages from Hamas captivity and advancing to Phase II of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Furthermore, it seeks to destabilize activities of the Iranian regime and its proxies, according to the statement.
