The Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, made a phone call with the newly-elected Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
During the call, Prince Mohammed bin Salman congratulated Pezeshkian on his victory in Iran’s presidential elections.
Furthermore, the Crown Prince and the Iranian President praised the progress of bilateral relations on several levels. They also stressed the importance of continuing to enhance cooperation in various fields.
The Iranian President expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Crown Prince for his kind feelings.
Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian won Iran’s presidential election with 16.3 million votes after defeating his hardline rival, Saeed Jalili, who received 13.5 million votes.
Iran held snap presidential elections after the death of Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, and his Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, and others in a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain in the province of East Azerbaijan, last May.
Pezeshkian, 69, is a heart surgeon and long-serving member of parliament. He was also the vice speaker of Iran’s 10th Parliament.
He also served as Iran’s minister of health for four years during the administration of then-president Mohammad Khatami. Pezeshkian was the only moderate candidate in the presidential election approved by the Guardian Council.
