Saudi Arabia’s King, Crown Prince Congratulate New Iranian President

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman congratulated Iranian President-elect  Masoud Pezeshkian on his victory in the presidential elections in Iran, reported Al Arabiya.

Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian has won Iran’s presidential election with 16.3 million votes after defeating his hardline rival, Saeed Jalili, who received 13.5 million votes, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Iran’s Interior Ministry said 30 million people turned out for the run-off vote.

The new Iranian President, 69, is a heart surgeon and long-serving member of parliament. He was also the vice speaker of Iran’s 10th Parliament.

Furthermore,  he served as Iran’s minister of health for four years during the administration of then-president Mohammad Khatami.

The presidential election, scheduled on June 28, came amid a tense time for Tehran, as it grappled with the aftermath of Raisi’s death, heightened tensions with Washington, and domestic protests across the country.

Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, and his Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, and others were found dead at the site of a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain in the province of East Azerbaijan, state media reported last May.
