Saudi Arabia, UK Forge Stronger Ties, Eye $37.5 Billion Trade Target by 2030

Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom reaffirmed their commitment to enhance economic collaboration, aiming to increase trade to $37.5 billion by 2030. During UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer‘s visit to Saudi Arabia, both nations emphasized the importance of the Saudi-UK Strategic Partnership Council in fostering cooperation. Leaders agreed to host the council’s next meeting in the United Kingdom, reflecting their shared aspirations.
The two nations committed to boosting mutual investments through Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the UK’s Industrial Strategy. This partnership focuses on industries of the future, ensuring job creation, global competitiveness, and sustainable growth. Officials also highlighted progress on the Gulf Cooperation Council-UK Free Trade Agreement, aiming to finalize negotiations soon.
Collaboration in Clean Energy and Technology
Both sides announced plans to establish a clean hydrogen alliance between Saudi and British universities, led by Newcastle University and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. They emphasized the significance of advancing clean technology, energy innovation, and environmental sustainability to drive economic growth.
Saudi Arabia’s Green Initiative and the Circular Carbon Economy approach received praise from the UK for their contribution to combating climate change. The nations also celebrated Saudi investments in UK assets like Heathrow Airport, Selfridges, and Newcastle United Football Club.
Expanding Collaboration in Strategic Sectors
Both countries agreed to deepen cooperation in financial services, focusing on banking, fintech, green finance, and asset management. In education, Saudi Arabia announced plans to increase British schools and establish university branches in the Kingdom by 2030.
Cultural ties were strengthened with collaborations between the Royal Commission for AlUla and the British Council, highlighting heritage preservation and museum development. Healthcare initiatives included a plan to establish a nursing college through partnerships with British universities.
