Saudi Arabia suspends the entry of citizens of GCC countries to Mecca and Medina

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries will be temporarily suspended from Makkah and Madinah because of Corona.

A statement published by the Saudi Press Agency stated that “based on the recommendations of the health authorities concerned with applying the highest precautionary standards to besiege the virus and prevent its spread locally and globally, and to reinforce the existing preventive measures to provide the highest levels of protection … it has been decided – in light of the exceptional health considerations that currently exist in some countries The Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf Countries, temporarily suspending the entry of citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries to the cities of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, on a temporary basis,”.

The statement added that the decision to suspend entry “excludes citizens of the countries of the Cooperation Council who have been in the Kingdom for 14 consecutive days and did not show signs of infection with the virus, so that those who wish to perform Umrah or visit the Prophet’s Mosque through the website of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to obtain a permit during the suspension period”.

The statement concluded by stressing that the Saudi authorities “closely follow developments in the spread of the virus and its repercussions on an ongoing basis, and precautionary measures are reviewed according to new developments, and additional measures will be taken if the need arises.”
