Saudi Arabia is set to significantly increase its efforts to integrate the Chinese language into its education system. The Kingdom plans to create 800 new teaching positions for Chinese language instructors across primary and middle schools. This initiative follows the successful deployment of 175 Chinese language teachers earlier this year, marking a milestone in the 2023 bilateral agreement between Saudi Arabia and China to strengthen educational cooperation.
Expanding Educational Collaboration
The initial success of the Chinese language program led to the decision to further expand its reach. This effort reflects a growing demand for Chinese language education in Saudi Arabia as part of the country’s broader strategy to foster closer ties with China. To support this initiative, the Saudi Ministry of Education, in collaboration with China’s Center for Language Education and Cooperation, has launched specialized training programs.
Teacher Training at Tianjin University
In preparation for their roles, 175 Chinese teachers underwent intensive pre-service training at Tianjin University in China. The training program concluded in August 2024. It aimed to equip educators with the necessary skills to teach Mandarin. The program also focused on adapting teaching methods to the cultural context of Saudi Arabia.
The launch of these initiatives aims to enhance cross-cultural communication and open new opportunities for students in Saudi Arabia. The expansion of Chinese language education reflects a growing recognition of the language’s global significance, especially in light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals
