Saudi Arabia Commits to Developing Ethical, Responsible Artificial Intelligence
The head of the National Data Management Office at the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), Alrebdi bin Fahd Al-Rebdi, affirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment, represented by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, to ensure the development of ethical and responsible artificial intelligence (AI), whether in the Kingdom or on the global scene.
It also plays an important role in strengthening global governance efforts for AI as it is the national authority responsible for data and AI in all aspects of regulation, development, and dealing in the Kingdom.
This was part of a speech he delivered at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the high-level meeting on International Governance of AI 2024. The meeting is taking place from 4 to 6 July 2024 in the city of Shanghai, China, under the title “Governance of Artificial Intelligence for Good and for All”.
Al-Rebdi said that the Kingdom has invested heavily in research and development of AI, established specialized centers and is keen to strengthen cooperation with leading international technology companies. It seeks global leadership in this field and to benefit from its transformative power in various sectors to achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
He pointed out that SDAIA works actively with organizations, governments, and industry leaders internationally to establish global governance frameworks for AI. Through building partnerships, SDAIA aims to contribute its expertise and visions to formulating AI policies and standards that promote innovation and ensure compliance with ethical principles.
