Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 56 hostile drones targeting various regions across the Kingdom on Friday.
Official spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Malki, confirmed the multi-layered defensive operations during a press briefing today, emphasizing that the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces maintained high readiness to protect civilians and vital national infrastructure.
According to Al-Malki, the defense units neutralized a significant number of threats in the Eastern Province and the Central Region. Specifically, air defense systems shot down one drone in the Eastern Province before it could reach its intended target area.
Furthermore, military units destroyed two additional drones over Al-Kharj governorate and the Eastern Province during the early hours of Friday. In a separate engagement, the forces intercepted three drones over Al-Kharj and the remote regions of the Empty Quarter.

Defending the Capital and Central Districts
The spokesperson highlighted a critical interception where air defenses shot down a drone approaching the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh. This specific operation demonstrates the precision of the Kingdom’s defensive umbrella in high-density urban areas and sensitive diplomatic zones.
In addition to the Riyadh interception, the military destroyed two more drones in Al-Kharj to ensure local safety. Subsequently, defense teams neutralized three drones across the Eastern and Central regions as the hostile attempts continued throughout the day.
The scale of the attack increased as the day progressed, yet the Saudi air defenses remained resilient against the influx. For instance, the forces successfully intercepted four drones in the Eastern and Central regions and three more in the Eastern Province.
Maj. Gen. Al-Malki reported the destruction of six drones in the Eastern Province during a single wave of hostile activity. Another drone fell in the same province shortly after, marking a continuous effort by the military to secure the skies.
Massive Waves Intercepted at the Border
As the afternoon continued, the Kingdom’s sophisticated tracking systems detected even larger formations of drones entering the sovereign Saudi airspace. Consequently, the air defense forces destroyed a wave of seven drones immediately after they crossed the national border on Friday.
The military prowess of the Kingdom became even more evident when the forces neutralized a subsequent group of nine drones. Finally, the most significant engagement involved the interception of twelve drones, bringing the total count of destroyed targets to fifty-six.
Maj. Gen. Al-Malki concluded by stating that the Ministry of Defense will take all necessary measures to protect the land. The Kingdom continues to coordinate with international partners to maintain regional stability and deter these repeated acts of aggression.
