Reef Saudi Launches International Training for Agricultural Workers in Morocco

The Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program “Reef Saudi” organized an international training program for a group of Saudi agricultural extension experts in Morocco. This initiative aimed to enhance their skills and introduce them to the latest global technologies in agricultural extension.

The delegation visited the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), which focuses on improving agricultural production and enhancing food security. Moreover, ICARDA collaborates with local and international institutions to help farmers address climate challenges. Officials at the center provided an overview of its four main departments. They include the Crop Diseases and Pest Control Department, Seed Testing and Inspection Department, Insect and Agricultural Pest Studies Department, and a Seed Bank that preserves various types of seeds to support research and maintain biodiversity.

ONCA

The delegation also visited the National Agricultural Extension Office (ONCA), a public institution in Morocco responsible for providing advisory services to farmers. ONCA promotes the adoption of modern agricultural technologies, supports farm management, and sustainable agricultural practices to achieve rural development. They also reviewed the work of the Agricultural Research and Development Network for Africa (ARDNA), which focuses on knowledge sharing and communication among stakeholders in the agricultural innovation system to strengthen support for smallholder farmers.

The delegation visited Morocco’s National School of Agriculture (ENA), which trains agricultural engineers to support the country’s agricultural development. Their program also included a visit to “Agro-pôle Olivier,” a research center and competitive cluster for Morocco’s olive oil sector.

Saudi Reef

It is worth noting that the “Saudi Reef” program recently launched an international training program to enhance farmers’ capabilities. Furthermore, this initiative aims to develop and improve farmers’ skills, introducing them to modern agricultural practices through the implementation of external study tours in specific agricultural fields, with participants selected based on specific criteria set by the program.
