The Prince of Makkah ordered the removal of the painted damaged cars in the Tahlia Walk. They were placed there by the Jeddah Municipality as an aesthetic view under the initiative Draw a Homeland, which was introduced in collaboration with plastic artist Shalimar Sharbatli to emphasize the value of recycling and transforming damaged cars into aesthetic models.
Social media interacted with the work negatively, describing the initiative as a distortion of the visual scene. After publishing the pictures of its initiative on its official Twitter account, the Jeddah Municipality faced a wave of widespread criticism from specialists in plastic art and activists in social communication. Even the residents of nearby neighbourhoods called for the figure’s removal.
The authority justified in a statement issued today that the initiative aims to involve residents and citizens, each according to their specialization or hobby, in addressing municipal challenges and contributing to improving services and facilities in the governorate.
