Muvi Studios, part of Muvi Cinema, unveiled plans to produce 10 Saudi films in the next 18 months. The announcement, made at the second Saudi Film Forum, highlights the studio’s commitment to nurturing local talent.
As part of its initiatives, Muvi Studios signed deals aimed at empowering Saudi filmmakers. Among these is a collaboration with Ayman Khoja Production Company to create three films. The two companies previously found success with Khawaja Complex, showcasing their productive partnership.
Expanding Genres Through Strategic Collaborations
To diversify its film offerings, Muvi Studios signed with Dabab Production Company for three films spanning comedy, horror, and thriller genres. Further collaborations include partnerships with Shabak Production Company and The Talkies, expanding their film portfolio even more.
CEO’s Vision for Saudi Cinema
Adon Quinn, CEO of Muvi Cinema, emphasized the studio’s focus on empowering Saudi youth in filmmaking. “We aim to showcase their work with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Film Commission,” Quinn said. He stressed that these partnerships are essential for enriching Saudi cinema and delivering content that connects with local audiences.
During the Saudi Film Confex, Muvi Studios locked in several deals, including a collaboration with Sirb Production for the social satire Lail Nahar. Directed by Abdulaziz Almuzaini, known for hits like Masameer and Ras B Ras, the film is set to premiere in Saudi cinemas this December.
Described as a comedy, Lail Nahar explores “the contrasting lives of two musical personalities navigating fame and society.” The film, filled with humor and commentary, delves into the chaotic world of stardom and the Saudi entertainment industry. Almuzaini expressed excitement, saying, “This daring vision will spark conversations and set a new standard for Saudi films.”
CEO Comments on the Bold Approach
Quinn commented on Lail Nahar, calling it a “bold, forward-thinking approach” that reflects the studio’s commitment to Saudi cinema. He added, “It’s not just a movie; it’s a statement about the strength and creativity of local cinema.”
Muvi Studios’ emphasis on local talent aligns with the recent success of Saudi films like Mandoob. Directed by Ali Kalthami, the black comedy has earned over $7 million since its release last December. The film showcases the unique and engaging stories emerging from Saudi Arabia’s film industry.
Additional Deals Inked at Saudi Film Confex
Muvi Studios also signed a co-production agreement with Black Light Productions for a yet-untitled comedy featuring Ibrahim Al-Hajjaj. Known for his role in Sattar, Al-Hajjaj starred in Saudi’s highest-grossing local film, which earned over $10 million in 2023. Another three-picture deal with Ayman Khoja highlights the studio’s efforts to collaborate with established filmmakers and continue developing Saudi cinema.
