Security Forces Prepare for Pilgrim Course in Makkah, Madinah
Saudi Arabia is on full alert, deploying extensive resources and personnel to facilitate smooth pilgrim flow during Ramadan. This period, known for witnessing the highest Umrah activity, has prompted an all-hands approach to ensure a seamless and spiritually enriching experience for visitors, who are heading to the sacred cities of Makkah and Madinah.
Integrated Security Measures for Easing Pilgrim Flow during Ramadan
High-ranking officials from the security sector have unveiled a comprehensive security strategy aimed at easing pilgrim flow during Ramadan. He said that it seeks to support worshippers in performing their rituals with tranquility and spiritual fulfillment during this blessed month. During a press briefing at Makkah’s Unified Security Operations Center, Lt. Gen. Mohammad Al-Bassami, the Director of Public Security, announced the ministerial approval of the Umrah security plan by Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif, the Minister of Interior. Al-Bassami stated the plan focuses on five key areas: security, crowd control, traffic management, humanitarian aid, and improving service agencies with annual updates.
Prioritizing Safety & Technological Advancement
Lt. Gen. Al-Bassami emphasized the paramount importance easing pilgrim flow as it contributes to the pilgrims’ safety. Additionally, He emphasized using artificial intelligence to manage crowd dynamics at both the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque. He detailed the allocation of the Mataf and certain areas of the Grand Mosque exclusively for Umrah pilgrims to accommodate the anticipated surge. Furthermore, he outlined strategies for public transport and crowd management to prevent congestion.
Civil Defense & Passport Directorate Readiness
Maj. Gen. Hamoud Al-Faraj, acting director general of the Civil Defense, highlighted the proactive measures taken to ensure pilgrim safety, including extensive inspections and safety education efforts. Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Saleh Al-Murabba from the General Directorate of Passports discussed the enhancements in processing pilgrim arrivals. Additionally, he highlighted the technological advancements deployed, including biometric and forgery detection devices, and mobile counters for expedited travel procedures.
