KKU Achieves Global Recognition in 2024 Shanghai Ranking

Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid University (KKU) has excelled in the 2024 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, earning global recognition. The institution ranked among the top 200 universities worldwide in three academic disciplines, marking a significant achievement.

Focus on Academic Excellence and Innovation

This recognition reflects the university’s dedication to enhancing academic programs and fostering scientific research and innovation. King Khalid University ranked between 101–150 internationally in mathematics and metallurgical engineering and between 151–200 globally in energy science and engineering. These rankings highlight its commitment to addressing energy challenges and advancing sustainability.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported the university achieved high rankings in instrumentation science, technology, and agricultural veterinary sciences. It also achieved high rankings in oral sciences, maintaining strong standings in several engineering, materials, and pharmaceutical sciences fields. The university ranked within the 301–400 range for mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, and pharmaceutical sciences, showcasing notable consistency.

Dr. Hamid bin Majdoua Al-Qarni described the results as a transformative milestone in advancing the university’s academic and research excellence. He emphasized the university’s dedication to creating a robust research environment while supporting innovative programs that address local and global community needs effectively.

Global Context of the Rankings

The Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2024 evaluates universities using detailed criteria. It included 1,900 universities from 96 countries this year. The rankings highlight academic and research achievements on a global scale. They cover 55 subjects, spanning Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Life Sciences. Other fields include Medical Sciences and Social Sciences, reflecting multidisciplinary excellence globally.

The rankings revealed Harvard University as the leading institution, topping 14 subjects, while MIT excelled in four disciplines. China’s Tsinghua University led in three subjects, and Princeton, the University of Chicago, and Oxford each claimed the top spot in two areas.

King Khalid University’s achievements reflect Saudi Arabia’s growing presence in global academic rankings, showcasing its commitment to educational and research excellence.
