Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two sides in the middle of 1961 AD, religious unity has been a major factor in the core of their relations, and has created an atmosphere of understanding and cooperation, one of the first fruits of which was their membership in the establishment of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In terms of what each side represents for the other, the Kingdom, in addition to its Islamic leadership, enjoys political and economic weight regionally and internationally, while Malaysia is a prominent axis in its regional surroundings and High-tech industries sector. The two countries have common attitudes on a number of regional and Islamic issues.
