King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) has launched two self-driving buses on its campus, to be the first in adopting smart vehicles in Saudi Arabia, in cooperation with two leading companies in the technology of self-driving and advanced manufacturing, the project has been launched in co-operation with Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO).
According to the Saudi channel of Al-Arabiya, the launch of this new project comes to asser KAUST’s position as a pioneer in adopting future environmentally friendly transportation, supporting mobility research, and placing it at the forefront of smart cities in the region.
The two smart buses use maps, cognitive response technology, light detection, range detection mechanisms , and systems to avoid obstacles , moreover, both buses are completely sustainable and fully electric, which makes them friendly to the environment.
