
In line with its efforts to establish its position as an economic, tourist and sports hub, Jeddah is bracing for hosting a diverse range of global sports events during the first four months of 2025, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Hosting global sports events has significantly elevated the Saudi sports sector, boosted the number of inbound visitors, and enhanced the status of Jeddah as a global sports destination.
Football Games
From January 8-12, 2025, Saudi Arabia will host the Spanish Super Cup (Supercopa de España) for the fifth time, at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in the coastal city of Jeddah.
The much-awaited knock-out tournament will feature 4 high-ranking clubs: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Athletic Bilbao and Real Mallorca.
On January 8, Barcelona will face Athletic Bilbao, while Real Madrid will play against Real Mallorca on January 9. The winning teams will compete in the final, on January 12, 2025.
Saudi Arabia has hosted the Spanish Super Cup 4 times in Jeddah and Riyadh. Real Madrid emerged winner in three editions, in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Meanwhile, Barcelona claimed victory at the third edition.
Moreover, Jeddah will host the Saudi national football team’s matches in the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
E-Prix Races
Furthermore, Jeddah is gearing up for another major sports event in February. For the first time, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the fastest street circuit in the world, will host the third and fourth rounds of the 11th season of Formula E race, also known as E-Prix, on February 14-15, 2025.
The E-Prix is the first global competition for electric vehicles (EVs), and the only championship certified from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) as the first global sport with zero carbon footprint.
Formula 1 Grand Prix
Another highly-anticipated event in 2025 is the Formula 1 stc Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, set to take place on April 18-20, 2025 at the iconic Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
Held in Saudi Arabia for the fifth time, the Formula 1 Grand Prix is a very popular racing event that attracts a large number of fans and competitors. It also aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 that aims to improve the quality of life of all segments of society to build a more thriving nation.
E1 World Championship
On January 24-25, 2025, Jeddah will host the inaugural race of the UIM E1 World Championship for electric boat racing for a second time. The E1 World Championship will feature 18 male and female pilots representing 9 teams in exciting and thrilling competitions.
These teams are owned by some of the world’s biggest names, including Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, Rafael Nadal, Sergio Perez, Tom Brady, Virat Kohli, Didier Drogba, and Marcelo Claure.
Extreme E Championship
Jeddah will also host the Extreme E Championship for electric SUVs for the fifth time in a row. It is an innovative form of EV racing that highlights the environmental impacts of climate change.
Furthermore, it promotes sustainable and eco-friendly technologies, and supports the adoption of EVs to reduce carbon emissions and foster a sustainable future for the planet.
