The Diriyah Biennale Foundation has inaugurated the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, that will run until May 25, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Titled “And All That is in Between,” the Islamic Arts Biennale takes place in Jeddah at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport.
Interestingly, the Biennale boasts seven thematic sections: AlBidayah (The Beginning), AlMadar (The Orbit), AlMuqtani (Homage), AlMidhallah (The Canopy), AlMukarramah (The Honored), AlMunawwarah (The Illuminated), as well as AlMusalla.
Ithra
King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) announced its participation in the event reflecting its commitment to strengthening its pivotal role as a pioneering center for supporting and preserving Islamic heritage.
Crucially, Ithra’s participation at the event basically revolves around the concept of Waqf, a fundamental element of Islamic culture.
According to this concept, several resources are allocated to help and support charitable, educational and religious initiatives.
Therefore, the center is currently displaying a Firman issued by Sultan Mustafa III regarding the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad, along with a prayer rug, a mosque lamp as well as a Tafsir manuscript.
Furthermore, the exhibition showcases rare pieces such as a folding manuscript bag and a pulpit, reflecting the duality between Waqf as a financial transaction and a spiritual commitment that mirrors the values of generosity and community care.
Extraordinary Participation
In the light of this, Ithra’s exceptional participation represents an integral part of the center’s efforts to celebrate Islamic heritage. That is why Ithra Museum houses a vast array of artworks that clearly embody the diversity of crafts and culture.
Through the participation in such exhibitions and initiatives, Ithra emphasizes its pioneering role in promoting Islamic arts at local and international levels.
