Heritage Commission Showcases Film on Young Saudi Girl’s Archaeological Discovery

The Heritage Commission recently hosted a screening of the film Thabyah at Cine House, spotlighting the remarkable true story of 15-year-old Saudi girl Thabyah Al-Shahrani.
The film follows her journey of collecting unusual stones in her hometown, which led to the discovery of 705 stone pieces in 2014. Following expert analysis, 19 of these pieces were confirmed to be archaeological artifacts, some tracing back to ancient civilizations of the Arabian Peninsula.
Thabyah also highlights the young girl’s admirable decision to hand over her findings to the proper authorities—an action reflecting both her awareness of the value of cultural heritage and her commitment to its preservation.
The commission has since registered the artifacts in the national antiquities record and placed them on display at the National Museum, honoring Thabyah’s early awareness and her significant contribution to safeguarding Saudi heritage.
In recognition of her inspiring role, the commission also presented Thabyah with a special award, celebrating her example as a source of motivation for many others.
