Abdurrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, notably honored the victors of the Global Prize in Desalination Innovation. This competition, weaving a tapestry of global innovation, beckoned 105 contenders from research centers, universities, entrepreneurs, and companies across 27 countries, each contributing to innovations in the water desalination industry.

The award ceremony notably highlighted the “Innovation in Desalination Industry” conference’s crucial segment. Held from September 30 to October 3, 2023, at Jeddah’s Ritz Carlton, the event spotlighted pivotal desalination advancements and practices.
Expressing gratitude, Al-Fadhli showcased deep appreciation for the steadfast support from the leadership in the water sector. He also warmly congratulated the winners, lauding their noteworthy achievements and capabilities in this crucial sector. Al-Fadhli highlighted Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in addressing regional and global water issues in his address. He spotlighted the launch of a Riyadh-based global water organization, a significant initiative announced by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al-Abdulkareem praised participants for supporting water sector directives and pioneering innovative initiatives. The Kingdom, producing an impressive 11.5 million cubic meters daily, showcases its dedication to water resource sustainability and demonstrates its leadership in global water production.

Notably, Syed Shah of “Aqua Membranes,” USA, secured the grand prize for his innovative project on altering reverse osmosis membranes through 3D printing technology spacers.

In other award tracks, winners like Arian Edalat and Mohammad Anwar from the USA and France, respectively, gained recognition. Similarly, Nick Heineman, Hani Said, and Quantum Wei from the Netherlands and the USA also took the spotlight. Their projects showcased Global Innovation, ranging from advanced desalination membranes to widespread use of solar-thermal desalination systems. Furthermore, they explored digital, simulation-assisted dual desalination stations, presenting a promising future in water desalination technology.
