Saudi Arabia’s Air Connectivity Program (ACP) has welcomed the first flight of the Italian national carrier ITA Airways coming from Rome to Jeddah, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Jeddah Airports has organized a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the arrival gate of Jeddah International Airport to celebrate the launch of flights.
The new route will be operated three times weekly with an Airbus A321neo aircraft, linking Rome Fiumicino with King Abdulaziz International Airport.

The ceremony marked the presence of Italian Vice Consul-General in Jeddah Irene Buongiorno, ACP vice president of aviation development Rashed Al-Shammari, alongside with ITA President of international sales Pierfrancesco Carino.
Furthermore, the event saw the convergence of Jeddah Airport vice president of operations Glen Wilson, and ITA regional manager for Asia, Middle East, and Africa Benedetto Mencaroni.
“We are delighted to witness the launch of the new route between Rome and our coastal and historical city of Jeddah, which will further enhance our air connectivity program” Jeddah Airports chief executive Eng. Mazen Johar and ACP chief executive Majid Khan said in a statement.
Now Travelers from ITA Airways’ network in Italy, Europe, and the Americas have a golden opportunity to enjoy a seamless journey and explore the untapped beauty of Jeddah.
Johar and Khan also expressed their intension to further strengthening Saudi Arabia’s collaboration with ITA Airways.
“I am so proud to be part of this unique cooperation between Italy and Saudi Arabia. Italian citizens have a great opportunity to discover the Kingdom, a beautiful country that I have considered my home for the past seven years,” Buongiorno said.
She also added that the launch stands as a testament to the friendship between the two countries, which is not only based on a deep historical relationship, but it has also acquired commercial friendship with increasing opportunities.
Air Connectivity Program
Launched in 2021, the Air Connectivity Program aims primarily at boosting the growth of Saudi tourism. Consequently, the Kingdom has embarked on a serious journey to link the Saudi Arabia with various countries around the world through launching several air routes to link the Kingdom to new global destinations.
