The coming Friday marks the opening ceremony of 2024 Paris Olympics, the first time to be held outside a stadium. It will be held in the heart of the capital, on the River Seine.
The ceremony’s organizers only announced the spectacular plans without any specific details.
“Organizing a ceremony on the Seine is not easier than doing it in a stadium… but it has more punch,” chief organizer Tony Estanguet told AFP earlier this month.
The Shows
The artistic director Thomas Jolly has designed the show and prepared a creative team gathering the writer of French TV series “Call My Agent”, Fanny Herrero, the best-selling author Leila Slimani, and renowned historian Patrick Boucheron.

Furthermore, the show has 12 various sections and highlights the participation of approximately 3,000 dancers, singers and entertainers.
The Notre Dame Cathedral, which is undergoing renovation after a devastating fire in 2019, will almost certainly feature dancers on its scaffolding.
The two-thirds of the ceremony will take place in daylight. The last third will highlight a light show, marking one of Paris’s most spectacular summer sunsets.
Moreover, the musical shows will vary from French classical songs to rap and electro.
Franco-Malian R&B star Aya Nakamura is anticipated to perform during the ceremony despite far-right politicians’ criticism, particularly Marine Le Pen, who stated that Nakamura’s participation would “humiliate” France.

The Message
Jolly summarized the message of the show in one word “Love”. He stated that his show will mirror cultural, linguistic, religious and sexual diversity in France and around the world.
Although this might be irritating for conservatives, Jolly emphasized that people who actually want to experience this diversity are numerous, but their voice is not much noisy.
Jolly has strongly hinted that a submarine could appear from the waters of the Seine at some point.
“You have the sky, you have bridges, you have water, you have banks, you have so much space to make poetry,” “So why not under the river also?” Jolly added.
