China Targets Industrial Transformation: Bold New Strategy for 2026-2030
China will launch a sweeping series of initiatives to fortify its emerging and future industries between 2026 and 2030. Zhang Yunming, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), announced these strategic plans during a press conference on Wednesday.
The government intends to deepen its efforts to cultivate new growth drivers within various emerging sectors over the next five years. Specifically, officials want to boost the application of modern manufacturing technologies and innovative products across a variety of new scenarios. Furthermore, the ministry plans to establish several national demonstration bases to showcase the rapid advancement of these emerging industrial sectors.
Investing in Future Technologies
Consequently, the MIIT will advance guidelines that promote innovative development while launching a slew of forward-looking, strategic science projects. To ensure success, authorities will support local governments as they develop future industries that align specifically with their unique local conditions. In addition, the central government will further leverage its investment funds to provide the necessary capital for these high-tech ventures.
China’s previous efforts during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) successfully expanded the reach of the nation’s technological manufacturing. For instance, industries such as new energy vehicles (NEVs), photovoltaics, and marine engineering equipment helped to enhance the global reputation of “Made in China.”
Moreover, Zhang highlighted that NEV production and sales reached record highs in 2025, signaling a strong foundation for future growth. Because the civil drone and shipbuilding industries also saw significant progress, the ministry remains confident in its long-term industrial roadmap.
