Biden: Diplomatic efforts to provide a “safe corridor” to get the US army remaining in Afghanistan
US President Joe Biden said that the US had ended the longest war in its history in Afghanistan, noting that US forces had evacuated more than 120,000 people.
Biden, in a speech at the White House, on the occasion of the withdrawal of the last US soldier from Afghanistan after 20 years of war, on August 31, considered that the “astonishing” success of the evacuations, as he put it, was due to “the skills and courage of the military, diplomats and intelligence personnel for weeks in which they risked their lives.”
In his speech, the US President indicated that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken is leading diplomatic efforts to provide a “safe passage” for the exit of US forces remaining in Afghanistan or Afghans cooperating with US forces.
