Egypt’s Al Ahly Achieves Victory Over Esperance, Snatches 12th CAF Championship Title
Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly achieved victory over its opponent Tunisia’s Esperance 1-0, snatching the 12th CAF Championship title.
It is worthy to note that Esperance’s Roger Aholou scored an early goal only four minutes into the match but this did not make any difference at the end of the match.
Al Ahly won 8 titles with the Swiss coach Marcel Koller, the last of which is this African tittle.
The Egyptian club has already reached five straight Champions League finals
Following their early lead, Al Ahly adopted a defensive approach, making way for Esperance to attempt counterattacks.
In the 30th minute, winger Percy Tau sent a strike, thanks to an assist from right-back Mohamed Hany. Five minutes before halftime, Esperance’s defence blocked an attack by Hussein El Shahat.
In the 62nd minute, winger Yan Sasse had a close shot as his strike from outside the box went inches next to the post. In 67th minute, Koller replaced Tau with Malian midfielder Alio Dieng to contain Esperance’s dominance.
In closing minutes, a set piece by Magdi Afsha from outside the area was blocked by the crossbar.
With this victory, Al Ahly has marked their unbeaten run to a record of 22 matches.
