Israel’s Netanyahu to Meet Trump as 2nd Phase of Gaza Plan Approaches

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that he will hold a landmark meeting with US President Donald Trump later this month, noting that the second phase of the Gaza peace plan is nearing completion, according to Reuters.

During a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Netanyahu said that the meeting will delve into potential pathways to peace and options to end the rule of the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza.

“I will be having very important conversations at the end of the month on how to ensure the second phase will be achieved,” Netanyahu added.

Trump’s plan to end the two-year war featured the release of Israeli hostages and the formation of an interim, technocratic Palestinian government in Gaza.

According to the plan, the new government will be supervised by an international “board of peace” and supported by a multinational security force.

The PM also said that the first phase of Trump’s plan is approaching its conclusion.

Since the Gaza truce took effect on October 10, Hamas has released all 20 living hostages and handed over 27 bodies in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian detainees and prisoners.
