Israel Military Claims Airstrike Killed Hamas, Islamic Jihad Financial Operatives

The Israeli military said on Sunday that it had killed Hussein Qadra and Mohammed Farra, two operatives from the military wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad accused of running a sprawling financing operation for the group.

According to an Israeli military post on X, Qadra headed the network alongside Farra and acted under direct Hamas leadership. Together, the IDF said, they “facilitated the transfer of over half a billion shekels ($145 million) to Hamas’ military wing by operating a network of dozens of couriers and money exchangers in Turkey & Gaza.”

The army added that these funds allowed Hamas to continue paying salaries to its fighters and financing attacks.

Furthermore, the military confirmed that a targeted strike killed both men on Wednesday, and their families buried the pair the following day. Notably, Farra’s family said a separate Israeli strike had earlier killed his father, mother and sister during the war.

Strikes Amid Fragile Gaza Ceasefire

The killings come even though a ceasefire has technically been in place since October last year. As the IDF explained in its statement, troops under Southern Command remain deployed in the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue operating to remove any immediate threat.

Israel insists that any lasting deal must ultimately include Hamas’s disarmament and removal from power in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the announcement also follows related claims by the IDF and Shin Bet, which this week separately said they had exposed additional Hamas operatives allegedly directing activity against Israel from Turkey.

Therefore, the disclosures suggest Israeli authorities continue prioritising the disruption of Hamas’s external financing and command structures, even as regional diplomatic efforts elsewhere, including US-Iran talks in Switzerland, proceed on a separate track.
