Iran Vows Retaliation Over Israeli Strike on Beirut’s Southern Suburbs

A senior Iranian military official said on Sunday that Tehran would not leave Israel’s strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs “unanswered,” according to Al-Arabiya English.

“Without a doubt, these crimes will not go unanswered,” Brigadier General Mohammad Jafar Asadi, deputy commander of Iran’s highest military command, told the state-affiliated Defa Press news agency following the attack.

By attacking Beirut’s southern suburbs, Israel has made peace talks between Iran and the United States pointless, according to Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Ghalibaf also noted that the “Zionist aggression” against Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahieh once again demonstrated that the United States either lacks the will or the ability to implement its commitments.

“If you do not have the will or the ability to fulfil your commitments, then there is no point in talking about continuing down this path,” he said in a post on X.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead and triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Lebanon was drawn into the conflict on March 2 when Hezbollah launched a series of attacks to support its ally, Tehran. As a result, Israel has launched an extensive military campaign that has since killed more than 3000 people.
