Polish President Thanks Trump After Decision to Deploy 5,000 More US Troops
Polish President Karol Nawrocki expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his move to deploy additional American troops to Poland, according to Reuters.
“Good alliances are those based on cooperation, mutual respect, and a commitment to our shared security,” Nawrocki wrote on X.
The remarks of thanks followed Trump’s announcement on Thursday that Washington would deploy an additional 5,000 troops, a decision he linked to his close relationship with conservative nationalist leader Karol Nawrocki.
“I thank US President Donald J. Trump for his friendship toward Poland and for the decisions whose practical dimension we see very clearly today,” Nawrocki added on Thursday night.
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz also wrote on X that the deployment of additional troops stands as a testament to the strength of Polish-American relations, describing Poland as a “model ally.”
Earlier this month, Poland announced that it is ready to accommodate additional US troops to foster NATO’s eastern flank, following Washington’s plans to scale back its military presence in Germany, according to the Saudi Gazette.
Currently, Germany hosts nearly 35,000 to 37,000 U.S. military personnel, serving as the largest hub for American forces in Europe.
Poland has repeatedly pushed for a stronger and more permanent US military presence on its territory.
This approach has been increased since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, considering the step as a key deterrent against potential Russian aggression.
Warsaw has increasingly ramped up defense spending while boosting its strategic cooperation with Washington, including expanded rotational US troop deployments, logistics infrastructure, and advanced missile defense systems.
