GCC-Russia-Jordan Summit to Address Iran War’s Regional Fallout

The Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Russia and Jordan will convene on Monday to discuss the repercussions of Iranian aggressions against countries in the region.

GCC Secretary-General Jasem al-Budaiwi announced that the meeting will take place via video conference, with the participation of the Foreign Ministers of GCC countries and Jordan as well as their Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.

The meeting aims to address “the implications of the brutal Iranian aggressions against the GCC states and Jordan, the dangerous developments in the region, and their negative repercussions that have impacted the entire world,” al-Budaiwi said.

Russia, for its part, expressed interest in enhancing relations with GCC countries. In remarks to Russian News Agency TASS, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is keen on boosting cooperation with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.

“Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations are our good partners and our good friends. They are among the countries we would like to develop bilateral cooperation with,” Peskov said.

“We would continue like this because we value our relations with them,” he added.

The US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on February 28, 2026, eliminating its Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with several top commanders. The attack triggered an Iranian response involving waves of drone and missile strikes that directly violated the sovereignty of several Arab States, including Saudi Arabia, Gulf countries, Iraq and Jordan.

As a result, the UN Security Council and the UN Human Rights Council adopted resolutions strongly condemning Iran’s “egregious attacks” and demanding an end to “all unprovoked attacks” against Gulf States and Jordan.

GCC countries stressed their right to self-defense under international law and emphasized the need to be included in any potential negotiations aimed at settling the conflict.
