Trump Invites Saudi Crown Prince to Join Gaza’s Board of Peace

The US President, Donald Trump, has extended an invitation to the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, to be a “very distinguished member” of the Gaza Board of Peace.

Trump was speaking at the Saudi-US Investment Forum, taking place in Washington, with the attendance of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as well as several high-level government officials, CEOs and business leaders from both sides.

Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

The US President mentioned Gaza’s ceasefire agreement and the adoption of a US-drafted resolution at the UN Security Council to advance the next phases of Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza.

“We had a historic ceasefire to end the war in Gaza and two days ago, incredibly, the UN Security Council backed the Trump Peace Plan and we have peace in the Middle East,” Trump said.

“They endorsed in the UN what is called the ‘Board of Peace,’ chaired by a person called Donald J. Trump. I accepted the chairmanship, they asked me to be chairman … it’s a great honor,” he added.

Saudi Crown Prince’s Role

Trump also expressed his excitement about the Saudi Crown Prince joining the Board of Peace, which will oversee the transitional government and the reconstruction of Gaza.

“I believe we’re gonna be lucky enough to have the Crown Prince be a very distinguished member of the Board … in the coming months, the Crown Prince and I are going to ensure that the ceasefire and everything else is going on that so positive in the Middle East,” the US President noted.

UN Resolution

On Monday, UN Security Council (UNSC) adopted a US-drafted resolution which endorses President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza. The resolution passed by a vote of 13-0, with both Russia and China abstaining.

It authorizes the establishment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza and the formation of a transitional governing body, and charts the path for a possible Palestinian State.

The ISF will work with Israel, Egypt and newly trained Palestinian police to help maintain security and demilitarize the Gaza Strip.

Gaza ‘Board of Peace’

The resolution also authorizes the formation of the Board of Peace, headed by Trump alongside other members and heads of State. This international transitional body will oversee a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee – made up of qualified Palestinians and international experts – which will handle delivering the day-to-day running of public services and municipalities for the people in Gaza.

Moreover, it will establish the framework and manage the funding for the Strip’s redevelopment until the completion of the Palestinian Authority (PA) reform program.
