Trump Claims Iran’s New Leader Seeks Ceasefire ahead of Major Presidential Address
US President Donald Trump claimed in a social media post that Iran’s new leader has asked for a ceasefire.
“Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE!” Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday.
However, it remains unclear what he means by “Iran’s New Regime President.” Masoud Pezeshkian is still Iran’s sitting president, with no official change in that office.
Meanwhile, Mojtaba Khamenei has become the Iranian Supreme Leader after his father, Ali Khamenei, was killed in a US-Israeli strike at the beginning of the war.
Trump also noted that he will only consider a ceasefire when Iran reopens the Strait of Hormuz. “We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!” he said.
The US President is supposed to deliver a prime-time address to the American people on Wednesday night at 9 pm ET (1 am GMT) for an important update on Iran war.
“TUNE IN: Tomorrow night at 9PM ET, President Trump will give an Address to the Nation to provide an important update on Iran,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on X on Tuesday.
In response to Trump’s claims, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) asserted that the Strait of Hormuz will remain under their control.
“The situation in the Strait of Hormuz is also firmly and dominantly under the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ naval forces,” the IRGC said in a statement carried by the Iranian state TV.
The statement added that the critical waterway “will not be opened to the enemies of this nation by the ridiculous displays of the US President.”
