Major General Hussein Al-Qahtani, the Commander of the Northwest Region, inaugurated recently the first phase of the 18th Sports Games competition for the Armed Forces in the Northwest Region (Tabuk).
More than 3,000 athletes, representing the Land Forces, the Air Force, the Navy, the Air Defense Forces, the Strategic Missile Force, and the General Administration of Health Services, participated in the course.
During the tournament’s launch, the leader of the northwest region raised the flag of the tournament, wishing for sports ethics and fair competition.
Colonel Saad Al-Rashidi the Director of the Sports Affairs Department of the Land Forces, welcomed the employees of the participating forces in the speech of the land forces hosting the course.
Al-Rashidi noted the support that sports in the armed forces enjoy from Prince Khalid bin Salman, Minister of Defense, because of the importance of sports in raising the level of physical fitness and morale of the employees of the armed forces.
The director of the competition, Brigadier General Sultan Al-Shehri, emphasized its importance as it highlights many physical competencies, developing and refining individual and group skills, and other advantages.
He pointed out that the previous sessions achieved positive and fruitful results at the level of military sports in all sectors.
He explained that the tournament will be held in three stages: the first stage in the northwestern region (Tabuk), and its competitions will be held at King Faisal Air Base, the second stage in the eastern region (Dhahran), and the third stage in the northern region (Hafar Al-Batin).
The course includes group and individual games, including archery, swimming, karate, football, basketball, handball, athletics, and other games.
