SDB Concludes “GameThon” Challenge, Announces Winners
The number of teams participating in the challenge reached 30, competing to innovate electronic games aimed at promoting the concepts of saving and financial awareness. The total value of the cash prizes distributed to the winners was 100,000 Saudi Riyals.
The team “Taqiyah” won first place, while the second place went to the “Awesome Studio” team. The “Rasif for Language Technologies” team came in third, and the “Evolve” team secured fourth place.
The winning projects were distinguished by their innovative financial solutions, the quality of ideas that reflect their commitment to the concepts of saving and financial planning, in line with the bank’s objectives and Islamic Sharia principles, and their feasibility for implementation.
The winning teams will have the opportunity to be incubated within the “Jada 30” program for a period of 3 months, where they will be provided with a fully equipped workspace, in addition to mentorship and guidance sessions with a select group of entrepreneurial advisors. They will also be connected with potential investors to help turn their ideas into successful business ventures.
GameThon
In his speech during the closing ceremony, the CEO of the Social Development Bank, Engineer Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Humaidi, said: “Today, we celebrate the winners of the ‘GameThon’ challenge and reaffirm our deep commitment to supporting the National Strategy for Gaming and Esports.”
“We are committed to providing all the enabling tools for innovators, developers, and programmers through entrepreneurial incubation programs, specialized workshops, as well as empowering them to turn their ideas into leading projects by connecting them with appropriate investment channels.”
‘GameThon’ represents a significant step in the Kingdom’s efforts to become a regional and global hub in this vital sector. It also supports the horizons of the Saudi digital economy.”
Al-Humaidi added: “Our efforts go beyond investing in video games to include promoting financial awareness and saving in an entertaining and enjoyable manner that encourages competition and knowledge. This makes it more acceptable and impactful among the younger generations.”
“Moreover, the ‘Game Thon’ challenge represents an opportunity to explore and guide local digital skills towards innovation and productivity.”
National Strategy for Gaming, Esports
The “GameThon” challenge supports the National Strategy for Gaming and Esports, launched by the Crown Prince in 2022. Additionally, this strategy aims to make the Kingdom a global hub for talent and creativity. The Social Development Bank seeks to ensure financial sustainability, diversify the national economy, create jobs. It also boost the Kingdom’s global position in the industry.
The Social Development Bank recently announced two agreements to create venture capital funds in the gaming and esports sector with the National Development Fund. Finally, the total value of these funds is 450 million Saudi Riyals.
