Saudi Arabia’s Al-Taawoun Face Challenge in AFC Champions League 2

Saudi Arabia’s side Al-Taawoun will encounter a tough path in the AFC Champions League 2 since they have been placed in Group B for West Asia. The Group also includes Iraq’s Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Bahrain’s Al-Khalidiya, and Turkmenistan’s Altyn Asyr. This tournament is the second-tier club competition under the Asian Football Confederation.

Draw Results from Kuala Lumpur

The draw occurred in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with representatives from 32 participating teams. The draw split the teams into two regions, with 16 teams from West Asia and 16 from East Asia.

The group stage draw resulted in the following:

Group A: Al-Wakrah (Qatar), Tractor (Iran), Mohun Bagan (India), Ravshan (Tajikistan)

Group C: Sepahan (Iran), Sharjah (UAE), Istiklol (Tajikistan), Al-Wehdat (Jordan)

Group D: Shabab Al-Ahli (UAE), Nasaf (Uzbekistan), Al-Hussein (Jordan), Al-Kuwait (Kuwait)

Tournament Schedule

The group stage will run from September 17 to December 5, following a home-and-away round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 16, scheduled between February 11 and 20, 2025. A separate draw will determine the knockout stage matchups, with regional separation maintained throughout the tournament.

Final Stages in 2025

The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played over two legs, with matches scheduled between March 4 and April 16, 2025. The tournament will conclude with a single-leg final on May 17, 2025.

Al-Taawoun’s Previous AFC Champions League History

Al-Taawoun secured their spot in this competition after finishing fourth in the Saudi Pro League with 59 points. They have previously competed in the AFC Champions League three times in 2017, 2020, and 2022, with their best performance being a Round of 16 appearance in 2020.
