Saudi Tourism Minister: SAR 80 billion is the volume of tourism Expenditure

Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Khatib said that the Crown Prince set clear goals for the tourism sector by 2030 and provided us with capabilities, and it remains for us to achieve the goals.

He added on his Twitter account, “We aim to reach the contribution of tourism to the GDP in 2030 to 10%, receive 100 million visits annually, and add one million jobs.”

The minister said that the employees in the Ministry of Tourism have ambition, determination, and a clear vision. They have specific annual goals, and they will work as a team to reach these goals, noting that many issues have been discussed and wonderful ideas have been come up. The goal, in the end, is an integrated and attractive Saudi tourism experience for the citizen and the visitor.

Al-Khatib pointed out that the tourism sector in the Kingdom achieved record numbers in domestic tourism during 2021, as spending on domestic overnight trips amounted to SAR 80 billion, through 60 million domestic overnight trips.

He explained that a large percentage of the tourism figures received from outside the Kingdom have been restored, adding that among the achievements of the tourism sector for the year 2021 is the continuation of efforts to train Saudis and the significant growth of jobs, as 137,000 Saudis were trained in various fields, and 2,000 Saudis were trained in entrepreneurship.

The recovery rate in the number of incoming trips for non-Hajj and Umrah reached 76% during the fourth quarter of 2021, and the number of workers in the tourism sector in Saudi Arabia grew by 10% compared to the end of 2020.
