Saudi Foreign Minister, UN Envoy Discuss Syrian Crisis

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, held talks with UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, during the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York. They focused on enhancing cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the UN regarding the Syrian crisis.

The discussions emphasized the work of the Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee and its role in resolving the Syrian conflict. Both sides also addressed regional developments and their impact on the Middle East.

Arab Ministerial Liaison Efforts

The meeting highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts, alongside the Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee, to stabilize Syria. Prince Faisal and Pedersen shared views on Syria’s position in the regional landscape, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to diplomatic solutions. The Kingdom aims to support political efforts that promote peace and stability in Syria.

Saudi Arabia’s Global Role

Saudi Arabia’s involvement in these discussions underscores its ongoing commitment to international cooperation. Prince Faisal’s meeting with Pedersen is part of broader efforts to foster peace in the region. Saudi Ambassador to the US, Princess Reema bint Bandar, also attended the meeting, reinforcing the Kingdom’s diplomatic presence.

In addition to Syria, Saudi Arabia reiterated its condemnation of Israel’s violations of international law. The Kingdom warned that the lack of accountability could lead to further escalation, endangering regional security.
