The Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, has launched the King Salman Gate project – a multi-purpose destination adjacent to the Grand Mosque in Makkah, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The project spans a total built-up area of 12 million square meters, with a capacity of 900,000 worshippers across its indoor and outdoor praying spaces.

The King Salman Gate project is a remarkable milestone in developing the infrastructure of Makkah and its central area, with the aim of transforming it into a global model for urban development.
Moreover, it aims to contribute to facilitating access to the Grand Mosque, boosting service quality, and enriching the visitor’s religious and cultural journey, in line with the objectives of the Pilgrim Experience Program.
Enhancing Services at Grand Mosque
The King Salman Gate project boasts a strategic location adjacent to the Grand Mosque. The project is linked to public transportation networks for enhanced access to the Grand Mosque.
As a multi-purpose destination, the project primarily focuses on enhancing the quality of services delivered as well as providing residential and cultural services in the vicinity of the Grand Mosque.
Preserving Makkah’s Heritage
It also features a unique blend of Makkah‘s rich architectural heritage and modern lifestyle to provide the highest level of comfort.
Furthermore, the King Salman Gate project develops and restores around 19,000 square meters of Makkah’s cultural and heritage sites, preserving Makkah’s cultural and historical legacy and enriching the visitor’s experience.
Meanwhile, the project will contribute to economic diversification – one of the key objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 – by creating more than 300,000 jobs by 2036.
PIF Strategy
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of RUA AlHaram AlMakki Company, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) company and the project’s developer.
The company supports the PIF’s strategy by transforming the area around the Grand Mosque to establish Makkah as a global benchmark for real estate development.
To this end, the company implements innovative and sustainable solutions for resource management, ensuring a positive impact on residents, pilgrims, and visitors while preserving Makkah’s cultural heritage.
