Saudi Arabia Pledges Support for Lebanon’s New President Joseph Aoun

Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Waleed Al-Bukhari, emphasized the significance of Lebanon’s presidential election. He stated that electing a president is crucial for Lebanon’s revival and reconstruction. Al-Bukhari praised President Joseph Aoun‘s inaugural speech, noting it reflects his national responsibility. He declared, “Saudi Arabia will stand by Lebanon, its people, and president.” The ambassador made these remarks after meeting senior religious figures, including Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif al-Derian and Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rai.

Lebanon’s Leadership Responds

A statement from Derian’s office mentioned Al-Bukhari’s expression of the Kingdom’s relief at the election. This achievement resulted from the unity of the Lebanese people, reviving their hopes. Al-Bukhari added that the election is a significant step toward Lebanon’s revival, reconstruction, and stability. He believes it will pave the way for reforms, helping Lebanon regain trust from the Arab and international community. Derian expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia and other countries for their efforts in ensuring the election. He praised adherence to the constitution, the Taif Accord, and Arab principles related to Lebanon’s identity.

Derian remarked that electing a president sets Lebanon on a path toward political breakthroughs. He anticipates the formation of a new government, revival of state institutions, and return of stability. After meeting Al-Rahi, Al-Bukhari expressed hope that Aoun’s term will bring national consensus, unity, prosperity, development, and stability. Al-Rahi conveyed gratitude to the Saudi Ambassador and the quintet for their efforts in ensuring the election. He wished President Aoun success in his national missions to revive Lebanon and resolve its crises.

International Support and Future Prospects

The international community, including France, Saudi Arabia, and the U.S., emphasized that Lebanon’s financial aid depends on Aoun’s presidency and a stable government. Lebanon urgently requires aid following a financial collapse and extensive war damages. The next steps involve forming a strong government capable of implementing essential reforms for the country’s economic recovery and stability. Aoun’s presidency signals a potential new chapter for Lebanon marked by enhanced international cooperation.
