Saudi Arabia: New Destination for Chinese Tourists

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced its approval to be an official tourist destination for tourists from China, starting from July 1, 2024, reported Saudi Press Agency.

The announcement came after a series of meetings, memorandums of understanding, and fruitful and joint cooperation between the Saudi and Chinese tourism sectors.

Also, the Minister of Tourism, bin Ahmed Al-Khateeb, said that the inclusion of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as an approved and official tourist destination for tourists from China is an important step that culminates joint efforts and close cooperation between the Saudi and Chinese tourism sectors.

Moreover, the Kingdom aims to attract more than 5 million Chinese tourists by 2030, as the third largest source of tourists coming to the Kingdom. He stressed that all capabilities and facilities are prepared to receive tourists from China and welcome them to enjoy an exceptional and inspiring tourism experience.

In addition, the Kingdom’s Ambassador to China, Abdulrahman bin Ahmad Al-Harbi, described China’s adoption of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a tourist destination for groups of tourists from China as a positive step to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership in various fields.

Tourism-related Developments

The Saudi Air Connectivity Program (ACP) celebrated the arrival of the inaugural flight of the Chinese national carrier, China Airlines, that landed safely today at King Khalid International Airport (RUH), reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Besides, Riyadh Airports Company organized an honorable ceremony marking this historic moment between both the Kingdom and China. ACP and other key partners from the air connectivity system in the Kingdom have attended the celebration. They highlighted the significance of the growing Saudi Chinese cooperation in tourism sector.

NEOM also commenced the China leg of its global tour known as ‘Discover NEOM’ last April, with different meetings and presentations in Beijing and Shanghai, in attendance of over 500 prominent pioneers in industry and business, according to NEOM.

Additionally, the tour was a part of a greater roadshow, called ‘Discover NEOM’, set to attract the attention of the Chinese investors and companies to invest in NEOM, as one of the central goals of the tour that began in Beijing on April 15 and ended in Shanghai on April 17.
