Royal Decree: Saudi Cabinet Can Convene in King, Crown Prince’s Absence

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, issued a royal decree that allows cabinet to convene in the absence of himself and the Prime Minister, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The royal decree, issued on Thursday, is based on a proposal from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman regarding the meetings of Saudi cabinet.

It states that in the absence of the King, the Prime Minister or his deputies, the cabinet shall be chaired by the eldest member of the cabinet who is a descendent of the Kingdom’s founder, King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Faisal Al Saud.

This decree is an exception to provisions of Article 7 of the Council of Ministers Law issued by Royal Decree A/13 related to the presidency of cabinet meetings, the royal decree added.

According to the royal decree, the chairman would sign cabinet decisions issued during the meeting.
