Roblox Suspends Chat Features in Saudi Arabia Amid Child Safety Concerns
Saudi Arabia has temporarily suspended voice and text chat features for Roblox, the widely used global gaming platform, for Saudi users due to concerns over child safety, according to Gulf News.
The move, carried out in coordination with the Saudi General Authority for Media Regulation, come after similar steps taken across other GCC countries, including Oman, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar. These steps were a response to the authorities’ call for protecting minors online.
Notably, the decision followed talks between Roblox and Saudi regulators to promote moderation tools, expand safe Arabic-language content, and strengthen safeguards against cyberbullying, harmful material, as well as potential online predators.
Through the General Authority for Media Regulation and the Ministry of Media, Saudi Arabia’s media system reaffirmed its commitment to protecting society from the harmful effects of electronic games.
Roblox emphasized that the temporary restrictions are part of its broader effort to create a safer online environment for children, while ensuring an engaging gaming experience for young audiences across the region.
